ASTRO-BCRF Emerging Investigator Award deadline approaching |
The ASTRO-BCRF Emerging Investigator Award is an ASTRO joint effort with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to support one Emerging Investigator Award (EIA) to Build a Diverse Scientific Workforce. The goal is to foster and develop talented early career breast radiation oncology researchers; multiple PIs are not allowed. The award may be for one year with $100,000 total for direct costs. The deadline has been extended to June 1 — view the Program Announcement to learn more, and apply today through ProposalCentral. |
Mega House budget bill boosts doc pay, threatens Medicaid |
House Republicans unveiled new legislation this week that represents a mixed bag for physicians and radiation oncology, as it would infuse Medicare physician payments with nearly $9 billion while tying future payments to medical inflation but also reduce Medicaid spending by more than $700 billion. ASTRO is grateful for Republican physicians in Congress, including ASTRO champion John Joyce, MD, for leading the charge to address Medicare physician payments. ASTRO also joined patient advocacy groups and the Association for Clinical Oncology in a May 6 statement opposing deep Medicaid cuts that would directly impact cancer patients, including children. New RT presentation for physicians |
ASTRO has created PowerPoint presentations for members to use as a resource for presentations to other medical professionals and the public. The Communications Committee is working to produce additional disease-site specific presentations. The newest set of slides to be released is Radiation Therapy as a Component of Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Management. The purpose of these slides is to serve as a resource that any radiation oncologist can use when speaking about the role of radiation therapy for breast cancer. The target audience is medical oncology faculty and fellows. However, any user is welcome to format the slides to fit your target audience. Check out the array of slide decks available. |
Interviews from the ASTRO History Committee |
Over the past two decades, the ASTRO History Committee has conducted a series of oral interviews of notable Society members. Each of the individuals interviewed has a unique story with lessons and insights into our specialty’s past, and possibly, about our future. Today we highlight Morton M. Kligerman, MD, who was interviewed by Gustavo Montana, MD, FASTRO. |
