The ASTRO Board of Directors has approved a climate change policy statement in response to growing concern regarding its impact on patient care. The statement seeks to acknowledge the challenges climate change presents to radiation therapy delivery and establishes five pillars that align with ASTRO's strategic goals.

The policy statement was developed by an ASTRO Climate Change Task Force, which was comprised of the following ASTRO members:

• Katie Lichter, MD, MPH, University of California San Francisco – Co-chair
• Avinash Chaurasia, MD, Brooke Army Medical Center
• Dalia Larios Chavez, MD, Harvard Radiation Oncology Program
• Hiram Gay, MD, Washington University St. Louis
• Anna Paulsson, MD, St. Joseph Health Medical Group, Petaluma, CA
• Gita Suneja, MD, MS, University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute
• Gabriel Vidal, MD, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

The statement is a pivotal first step in raising awareness and fostering interest among ASTRO members, acknowledging the challenges climate change presents to radiation therapy delivery. ASTRO has also joined the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health. Dr. Katie Lichter is serving as ASTRO’s representative.
