Authorized Users for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy – A New Opportunity to Enhance Your Practice’s Skillset
Addressing the Workforce Gap
As the demand for radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) grows, practices nationwide are grappling with how to organize programs, balance specialties and maintain patient safety. To become an Authorized User (AU) under Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or Agreement State regulations, radiation oncologists must have work experience under the supervision of an authorized user in addition to didactic training. Accessing this work experience can be challenging because of limited local opportunities, small patient volumes or lack of available mentors. To address this workforce gap, ASTRO is pleased to announce our new AU Training Program, providing a structured and accessible option to meet these requirements.Supported by an educational grant from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, the AU Training Program offers enrollees a standardized and free opportunity to fulfill the last regulatory requirements to become an AU for RPT.
Why This Matters
Opportunities for the aforementioned work experience can be limited, so ASTRO is working with two leading radiation oncology practices to serve as official AU Training Centers, making this experience accessible and consistent. What You’ll Gain
Expert Mentorship: Learn directly from clinical leaders with extensive RPT experience. Free Training: Have access to ASTRO's Beyond the Beam RPT Training Series (15.00>AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™). Case-Based Experience: Work under expert guidance, fulfilling NRC/Agreement State eligibility requirements. Additional Resources: Gain access to online and in-person learning opportunities with additional tools to support a safe RPT practice.Eligibility Requirements
