ASTRO Foundation Relaunches as Speed of Light

As we enter a new year, I am thrilled to share an important milestone for our field: the relaunch of ASTRO’s foundation with a renewed focus, a clearer identity, and an even greater sense of possibility.

Last year, ASTRO CEO and Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI) Executive Director Dr. Vivek Kavadi invited me to lead a task force of ASTRO and ROI leaders to reflect on what our foundation could become at its best. We asked big questions. How can we accelerate scientific innovation? How should we support the next generation of investigators? How do we ensure patients feel informed, supported and seen? That work has shaped a bold new direction.

Beginning January 1, our foundation will carry a new name and a new promise: Speed of Light – The ASTRO Foundation.

Radiation shares the essence of light: focused, intentional and transformative. It reveals what is possible and illuminates a path forward for patients during their hardest moments. Our new name embodies that spirit and honors the voices of patients whose insights helped shape an identity rooted in clarity, purpose and hope.

Speed of Light – The ASTRO Foundation will:

• Catalyze high-impact science that will shape the future of cancer care.
• Expand trusted and accessible patient resources that support individuals and families during treatment.
• Invest in people by nurturing new investigators, developing leaders and building a strong and vibrant workforce for years to come.

This transformation is more than a rebrand. It aligns ASTRO’s philanthropic mission with the real needs of our field and the urgency of our work. Every advance in radiation medicine has originated from someone who dared to imagine a better way. As we begin this next chapter, your partnership and support will determine how far and how quickly we can move the field forward.
