Congratulations to the class of 2025 Fellows
ASTRO is pleased to announce that 43 members will receive the ASTRO Fellow (FASTRO) designation. The 2025 class of Fellows will be inducted during the Awards Ceremony at ASTRO’s 67th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, joining a distinguished group of colleagues. The Fellows program, which began in 2006, honors longtime Active, International and Emeritus members’ outstanding achievements and contributions to the Society, cancer research, education, patient care and the specialty. Congratulations to the 2025 Fellows!

Act now! ASTRO's 2025 official elections close at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time this Friday, July 11. Log in with your email address and password to view the nominees and access the ballot. Send an email if you need assistance with your login information. Voting is conducted through a secure, online system that ensures the authenticity and secrecy of your ballot.
 
ASTRO 2025: Late-breaking Abstract submission site closes tomorrow
Tomorrow, Thursday, July 10, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time is the deadline to submit Late-breaking abstracts! A special panel of peer reviewers will review the late-breaking abstracts and the corresponding author will be notified of the abstract status by August 7.
Annual Meeting opportunities for students
ASTRO has organized a hybrid in-person/virtual event designed for undergraduate, graduate and medical students to learn more about a career in radiation oncology and the radiation sciences (i.e., medical physics, radbio, and MD/PhD pathways). The Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program (ASPP) invites students to participate in this half-day workshop to learn more about radiation oncology, cancer treatment and cancer research as they consider their career options. Help us spread the word to interested students. The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required. The ASPP registration deadline is September 12.

Premium interview rooms are available for rent, for three-hour periods of time, Saturday, September 27, through Wednesday, October 1. Be sure to post your job openings on the ASTRO Career Center and register for the ASTRO Career Fair.
 
ROCR gains new cosponsor, supporters list grows
The Radiation Oncology Case Rate (ROCR) Act (S.1031 / H.R.2120) has gained a key cosponsor in House Cancer Caucus Co-chair Debbie Dingell (D-MI). Also, ROCR now has 114 supporters, with Sutter Health, University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston, and Photon Physics Services, Inc. signing on in the last few weeks. ASTRO sends letter to House Energy and Commerce Committee opposing extravasation legislation
Together with AAPM, ACR, ASNC, and SNMMI, ASTRO sent a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee opposing the Nuclear Medicine Clarification Act. If enacted, the bill would require reporting of extravasations above 50 rem. In addition, the NRC is currently evaluating a harm-based definition of extravasation. Reconciliation final passage
On July 4, President Trump signed HR.1, the Reconciliation bill, into law. The legislation includes a temporary 2.5% increase in Medicare Physician Fee Schedule payments for 2026; preservation of the current pass-through entity tax; and nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid funding. New RO-ILS Case Study: Challenges with Multiple Isocenter Treatment
The latest RO-ILS education describes the events and contributing factors that led to a patient’s incorrect stereotactic treatment. Read RO-ILS Case Study 22 for lessons learned and possible mitigation strategies when managing multi-isocenter treatment. Additionally, RO-ILS users attending the AAPM Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, are invited to participate in a RO-ILS User Meeting on Sunday, July 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern time. Deadline approaching for bladder cancer QI funding opportunity
ASTRO is collaborating with Pfizer and Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, to offer a Quality Improvement grant funding opportunity to enhance care for patients with bladder cancer. The grant program will support innovative projects that seek to improve multi-disciplinary management of bladder cancer care in diverse clinical settings in the United States. Conquer Cancer will oversee the review and evaluation of applications. Grant funding will be provided directly by Pfizer, with a total of $1.5 million available to fund approximately six research projects. Apply online by July 23, 11:59 p.m. Eastern time.
