Medi-Cal confirms fee schedule update for radiation therapy CPT codes

After months of advocacy, ASTRO has received notice from Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program, confirming that the State's Medicaid fee schedule for radiation treatment delivery codes 77402, 77407 and 77412 will be updated. The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) will reestablish Medi-Cal reimbursement rates for these codes at 80% of the current 2026 Medicare rates. The updated reimbursement rates are expected to be implemented within 90 to 180 days. Additionally, an Erroneous Payment Correction (EPC) will be issued for eligible services with dates of service on or after January 1, 2026. ASTRO has been actively advocating for revisions to the Medi-Cal fee schedule, as well as fee schedules for other state Medicaid programs. On June 10, ASTRO met with Medi-Cal officials to discuss the coding changes and the need to update reimbursement rates. ASTRO will continue working with Medi-Cal and other state Medicaid programs to ensure their fee schedules accurately reflect current coding and reimbursement policies.
