ASTRO sends letter to Hill emphasizing year-end priorities
November 10, 2022
ASTRO sent a letter to Congressional leaders outlining key legislative priorities as Congress crafts end of year spending bills. The letter outlines the impact of rising costs due to inflation, staff shortages, delayed patient screenings, practice consolidation, and added bureaucratic roadblocks (like prior authorization for Medicare Advantage patients). Combined with continued Medicare reimbursement reductions, patient access to care in every state is under threat.
ASTRO reiterated its commitment to working with Congress to protect cancer treatments close to home, invest in payment stability and reduced bureaucracy, in the short term, and ensuring higher quality care through alternative payment models in the long term.
