Relive the highlights of ASTRO 2025 in the issues of the Daily News! PDFs of the print Daily News, which were distributed on site at the meeting, are available for viewing, as well as additional online only articles, including expert commentary and summaries of the Clinical Trials and Plenary sessions, and the Presidential Symposium, which focused on nonmalignant indications.

Additionally, visit the theMednet for follow-up discussions on the 12 studies from the Plenary and Clinical Trials sessions and extend the conversation beyond the meeting. This forum offers a place to ask follow-up questions, read commentary and see how peers are interpreting the findings for clinical practice.

 
U.S. government shutdown updates and impacts
The U.S. federal government remains closed, entering a second week with negotiations gridlocked. Nonessential funding reserves are running out, and the White House has told the Federal workforce to prepare for “imminent” layoffs. Nevertheless, essential activities continue uninterrupted. ASTRO joins 160+ organizations opposing indirect cost caps
In a letter to congressional appropriations leaders, ASTRO joined over 160 organizations in support of the Joint Associations Group’s (JAG) efforts to ensure that institutions’ medical research costs are adequately supported. The letter also urged legislators to block federal agencies from capping indirect costs and to include appropriations bill language supporting JAG’s Financial Accountability In Research model. Anthony Letai named new NCI director
Anthony Letai, MD, PhD, formerly a medical oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, was sworn in as the director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) on September 29. Dr. Letai will take charge of an agency that plays a critical role in cutting-edge medical advancements, and ASTRO looks forward to collaborating with NCI on mutual priorities.
