ASTRO and RPT Industry Roundtable members discuss the use of radiopharms
ASTRO hosted a Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Roundtable last week. ASTRO Board Chair Jeff Michalski, MD, MBA, FASTRO, along with Ana Kiess, MD, PhD, chair, and Freddie Escorcia, MD, PhD, vice-chair of the ASTRO RPT Committee, led the meeting with support from Roundtable members Novartis and Lantheus. Topics included the status of the workforce and associated training needs, health policy implications and research and development. Other industry members that attended in person (pictured above) and online included AstraZeneca, Bayer, Cellectar Biosciences, Elekta, NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes, Sun Nuclear, a Mirion Medical Company and Theragenics. Apply Today! ASTRO-BCRF Trainee Travel Awards to foster diversity, equity and inclusion
The ASTRO-BCRF (Breast Cancer Research Foundation) Trainee Travel Awards to foster diversity, equity and inclusion at the Annual Meeting will provide conference funding to support trainee participation in the meeting. Students and residents from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply for this award, designed to help trainees gain career building skills and support their participation in education, networking and mentoring events at the Annual Meeting. Applications will be accepted through Thursday, April 4.
 
Gold Medal nominations deadline
The nomination deadline for the prestigious ASTRO Gold Medal award is April 12. The Gold Medal is ASTRO’s highest honor bestowed on members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of radiation oncology. View past recipients. Learn more.
 
New on the Blog – ASTRO policy engagement: From legislation to regulation
ASTRO Health Policy Council Chair Catheryn Yashar, MD, FASTRO, provides a narrative of the internal process ASTRO undertakes when the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issues Notices of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) involving regulatory and policy changes impacting radiation oncology. From monitoring NPRMs, to submitting a comment letter, to meeting with CMS, the Health Policy team works to actively support your interests. Learn about the process and how you can get involved.
 
ASTRO Town Hall: Supervision in radiation oncology

Congress completes FY 2024 funding: Increases to NIH and NCI
Last week, Congress passed government funding legislation for FY 2024 that included a $300 million increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a $120 million increase for the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
