Brachytherapy Workshop at this year’s ASTRO Annual Meeting |
ARRO is excited to announce that the ARRO Day program has been expanded to include a brachytherapy workshop, Principles and Skills of Brachytherapy: A Resident-focused Workshop, on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. This workshop will include both didactic lectures and hands-on training. Regular ARRO Day programming will immediately follow the workshop.

Don’t miss the 5th annual Varian-sponsored ARRO Bowl at this year’s ARRO Day from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, in San Francisco. It is a high-energy, fast-paced quiz competition exclusively for radiation oncology residents and med students! Bring your brainpower and competitive spirit as teams go head-to-head for bragging rights and some seriously awesome prizes. This year’s showdown will be hosted by last year’s champs, Erin McCammack, MD, and Alex Grosinger, MD, from the University of Minnesota. Rally your crew and sign up now — it’s game time! |
Help spread the word to students! ARRO Med Student Workshop and ASPP events in San Francisco |
Encourage medical students to attend the ARRO Medical Student Workshop on Saturday, September 27, to get an insider view on radiation oncology, the intern year, career paths and more. In addition, registration is open for the ASTRO 2025 Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program (ASPP), on Sunday, September 28. This half-day workshop is a hybrid in-person/virtual event for high school, undergraduate, graduate and medical students interested in learning about careers in radiation oncology and a unique opportunity for students to gain firsthand insights into the various career pathways available within the field. The registration deadline for ASPP is September 12. |
Child Care Stipend at ASTRO Annual Meeting!! |
ASTRO is delighted to offer a limited number of $250 child care stipends to its members who are residents or in their first year of practice. These stipends are designed to assist with child care expenses while attending ASTRO’s Annual Meeting. The stipends will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible ASTRO members who submit the Child Care Stipend Application for consideration and approval. Call for ARRO CHST Task Force Lead |
Are you passionate about climate change, health care access, and sustainability in radiation oncology? ARRO is seeking a resident to lead the CHST Task Force (Climate, Health and Sustainability). As lead, you’ll coordinate national projects, collaborate with ASTRO and ESTRO, and help shape the future of environmentally responsible cancer care. Are you a radiation oncology resident interested in government relations, including congressional advocacy? If yes, ASTRO’s Government Relations (GR) Fellow program is for you! The GR Fellow will participate in advocacy meetings and functions, including meetings with members of Congress or their staff. The GR Fellow will also receive an Emerging Advocacy Grassroots Leader award for travel to Advocacy Day. Apply by August 22. |

Oral Boards Study Groups |
The ARRO Education Committee is continuing our effort to form oral boards study groups. Those groups will be composed of residents from different institutions who are interested in oral boards studying. If interested, fill out this form. All residents are welcome to participate, but this is geared toward rising PGY-5s and graduating residents! Please share with your graduated co-residents! We will solicit entries through October, but groups will be formed this summer. For questions, email Shane Neibart, MD. |

The Education Committee is actively working to support residents through all stages of training. We’re currently developing new resources to assist with oral boards preparation and success. Our ongoing webinar series — Survive & Thrive: A Resident’s Guide to Radiation Oncology — continues to offer practical tips, mentorship and insights to help residents navigate the challenges of residency with confidence.
