What is STAR?
Stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation (STAR), also called cardiac radioablation, is a noninvasive approach that uses stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) to deliver precisely targeted radiation to involved heart tissue. STAR has primarily been studied in patients with ventricular tachycardia that remains uncontrolled despite other treatments (refractory ventricular tachycardia). STAR treatments involve a close partnership between cardiac electrophysiologists and radiation oncology teams to customize each patient’s treatment. Together, they use cardiac imaging and electrical mapping to identify the treatment target and guide radiation delivery.
About the STAR Treatment Sites Map
ASTRO’s STAR Map is a directory of U.S.-based treatment sites that may offer STAR through a research study (Clinical Trial), outside a clinical trial (Clinical Care), or in both settings (Clinical Trial & Clinical Care).
The resource is designed to increase awareness, support referrals and help patients and physicians explore treatment and research opportunities. Clinicians offering STAR at their practice can fill out a form to get their program added to the ASTRO STAR Map.
Select a star on the map to view the site’s program information. Contact the treatment site to confirm current treatment availability and clinical trial enrollment.
The U.S.-based practices indicated on this map have self-reported that they offer cardiac ablation using STAR (Stereotactic Arrhythmia Radioablation). Their inclusion here does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation or support for either the practice or cardiac radioablation as a treatment intervention. Listings are provided to facilitate the ability for health professionals and/or patients to explore options and make their own determinations.
Email the FRM team for map questions and program updates.
