Senate hits pause on OMB grantmaking rule

On Aug. 8, the Senate passed a continuing resolution government funding bill that would temporarily pause rulemaking to upend federal grantmaking through December 11. The Senate-passed stopgap will fund the government at current levels through December 11 if legislators fail to pass FY27 funding legislation before the end of September. The bill also halts a proposed rule from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) that would politicize the federal government's grantmaking process. ASTRO and many other groups oppose the proposed rule. The Senate's continuing resolution conflicts with the House's version passed in July, which funds the federal government through December 4 and does not include language halting the OMB grantmaking rule.
