Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee holds provider hearing
March 25, 2026
On March 18, the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee held a hearing on the role that providers play in driving costs among other challenges facing health care. Among many topics, committee members and witnesses discussed reforming physician reimbursement as one way to address health care affordability concerns. Committee members also discussed Medicaid cuts in last year's One Big Beautiful Bill Act and the expired ACA tax credits as primary drivers of rising costs. Both parties agreed that practice consolidation and a lack of price transparency are other main issues contributing to the problem. David Aizuss, MD, chair of the AMA's Board of Trustees, served as a hearing witness and pointed out that physician payment has declined by 33% since 2001 despite rising practice costs.
