ASTRO submitted comments on the NRC’s proposed rule outlining revisions to NRC regulations under 10 CFR Part 37, which govern the physical protection of Category 1 and Category 2 quantities of radioactive materials. These revisions aim to modernize the regulations, enhance efficiency, and reduce regulatory burdens while maintaining safety and security.

ASTRO supports increased flexibility of regulatory reporting, training and other requirements, but not at the expense of patient, provider or public safety. The NRC must be careful when promoting efficiency and regulatory flexibility so that current safety standards are not eroded.
