September 11, 2026
On September 10, ASTRO submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule, calling on the Agency to increase payments for radiation treatment delivery services by correcting a hospital payment assignment that continues to undervalue intermediate treatment delivery, severely impacting community-based centers. The comment letter also addressed several other CMS proposals, including:
- Image-Guided Robotic Linear Accelerator Stereotactic Radiosurgery (G0339 and G0340)
- Proton Beam Treatment Delivery (CPT codes 77520, 77522, 77523, and 77525)
- Determination of Practice Expense Relative Value Units (RVUs)
- Payment for Physician-Patient Clinical Trial Discussions
- Supporting Beneficiaries Planning for Future Medical Decisions
- Quality Payment Program
