ASTRO submits comments on 2027 HOPPS proposed rule

On August 28, 2026, ASTRO submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the 2027 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule. ASTRO provided input on the following policy proposals that would impact radiation oncology effective January 1, 2027:
- Payment for radiation treatment delivery services, with a particular focus on increasing reimbursement for CPT code 77407
- Brachytherapy sources and the Low Volume APC policy
- Comprehensive Ambulatory Payment Classifications
- Diagnostic radiopharmaceutical separate payment
- Payment for software as a medical service
- Site-specific payment policy for imaging without contrast services furnished in excepted off-campus provider-based departments
