ASTRO hosted a member Town Hall on May 6 to discuss ongoing challenges tied to the revised radiation treatment delivery codes. ASTRO’s leadership reviewed the historical context that led to the code revisions, shared early member-reported impacts (including significant payment declines and administrative disruptions), and outlined ASTRO’s ongoing engagement with CMS, Congress, Medicare contractors, and private payers.

The discussion reinforced that the issue extends beyond routine annual reimbursement fluctuations. Many practices are reporting substantial Medicare payment reductions, compounding multi-year downward payment trends and creating acute access-to-care risks, particularly for freestanding and rural centers.
