Government likely to reopen after 43 days
November 12, 2025
The U.S. Federal government is expected to reopen this week after a seven-week recess. The Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) Monday night to end the longest federal shutdown in history. The deal would fund the government through January, reverse some Federal layoffs, includes three full-year appropriations, extends telehealth flexibilities, and waives the statutory PAYGO (pay as you go) requirements to prevent cuts to Medicare. Having passed the Senate late Monday, the measure now heads to the House for a vote. The deal also involves a Senate vote this year on extending Affordable Care Act subsidies.
