Last week, ASTRO submitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to reiterating concerns about revaluing the G-codes for treatment delivery, IMRT and image guidance, which CMS warned would face future scrutiny. ASTRO remains committed to working with CMS and Congress on a new radiation oncology payment system and urged the Agency to maintain the G-codes  until a transition to a new system can occur. The letter also cautioned the Agency in moving to a new practice expense methodology and asked for transparency and stakeholder input in the process.

CMS soon will begin its rulemaking for 2024, and those proposals will be released sometime in July 2023. This letter was intended to provide input on issues important to radiation oncology before Agency staff enters into that process.
