Senators begin work to fix Medicare pay cuts

October 18, 2022

Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) are leading a letter to Senate leaders expressing concerns with upcoming cuts to Medicare payments to physicians. The letter underscores the potential impacts that the proposed Medicare physician fee schedule (MPFS) conversion factor decrease could have on seniors’ access to care. It also emphasizes lawmakers’ commitment to implementing longer-term payment reforms that provide predictability and stability for providers in a fiscally responsible manner. ASTRO strongly supports this letter and is encouraging Senators to sign the letter and address Medicare payment cuts by year-end.

ASTRO also is working with Congress to address payment cuts to radiation oncology due to Medicare’s clinical labor price update.
