ASTRO leaders to join House Cancer Caucus for briefing on radiation therapy access

July 14 briefing will examine cancer care disruptions, Medicare payment issues and bipartisan solutions to protect patient access

ARLINGTON, Va., June 11, 2026

Physician experts from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) will join House Cancer Caucus leaders on July 14 for an in-person lunch briefing on policies to support patient access to advances in cancer care.

The briefing will examine recent progress in radiation therapy treatments for a variety of cancers and the longstanding policy challenges that affect whether patients can receive affordable, high-quality cancer care close to home. Speakers will discuss sudden reimbursement disruptions associated with 2026 Medicare billing code changes, rising practice costs, prior authorization delays and bipartisan policy options such as the Radiation Oncology Case Rate (ROCR) Act (S.1031/H.R.2120).

“Radiation therapy is an essential part of cancer care, but patients only benefit from these advances if treatment is available when and where they need it,” said Sameer Keole, MD, FASTRO, Chair of the ASTRO Board of Directors. “With cancer incidence rising and Congress debating healthcare affordability, this briefing will help congressional staff understand how federal policy can support timely access to high-quality cancer care.”
