American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) names Adam Greathouse as Director of Health Policy

ARLINGTON, Va., August 21, 2025

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the leading medical society for physicians who treat patients with radiation therapy, recently promoted Adam Greathouse to Director of Health Policy.

In his new role, Greathouse leads ASTRO’s advocacy efforts on priority health policy issues such as reducing prior authorization burdens that delay patients from starting cancer treatments and supporting reimbursement policies that preserve patient access to high-quality radiation oncology care.

“Health policy issues are among the top challenges identified by ASTRO members,” said ASTRO CEO Vivek S. Kavadi, MD, MBA, FASTRO. “Adam’s leadership will be central to advancing payment reform strategies on behalf of our members while also protecting access to care for more than one million patients who receive radiation therapy for cancer and other diseases each year.”

Greathouse will continue to serve as ASTRO’s staff liaison to the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel and the Relative Value Scale (RVS) Update Committee, helping shape national payment policy for radiation oncology services to reflect the expertise and resources required to deliver high-quality care. He also will represent ASTRO in collaborations with other medical specialty societies to champion policy solutions that support physicians and their patients.

Greathouse joined ASTRO in 2021 as Senior Manager of Health Policy and was promoted to Assistant Director of Health Policy the following year. Before joining ASTRO, he worked in health policy for the American Optometric Association and The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC), an employee benefits advocacy group. He also holds a law degree from the Valparaiso University School of Law.
