ASTRO EAGL Awards

About the EAGL Award

Note: ASTRO will accept EAGL Award applications from January 14 through February 13.

We recognize that radiation oncology residents and nurses are a crucial component of the specialty and its future. Therefore, to support resident and nurse attendance at Advocacy Day, ASTRO provides the opportunity for emerging advocates to receive an Emerging Advocacy Grassroots Leadership (EAGL) Award to mitigate travel costs.

To apply:

  • Write a one-pager letter explaining why attending Advocacy Day is important to advancing your career and radiation oncology.
  • Submit an accompanying letter from your program director recommending your attendance.*
  • Provide a professional headshot and social media handles.
  • Letters should be submitted to Zachary Harris.

We look forward to reviewing your application.

ASTRO staff and government relations council chairs will evaluate applicant letters and recommendations from program directors. For those applicants who are approved, ASTRO will provide a $400 award to offset the costs of attendance.

ASTRO will only select one awardee per institution. EAGL awardees will be recognized in an ASTRO press release prior to Advocacy Day.

Due to their leadership positions, travel costs for voting members of the ARRO Executive Committee are covered and they are exempt from the application process.

Residents and nurses who want to attend Advocacy Day but do not receive an EAGL Award are still encouraged to participate.

*Nurses do not need to submit a letter from their program/department director.
