Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program

ASTRO’s annual Radiation Oncology Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program (ASPP) hosts undergraduate, medical and graduate students from institutions of higher learning in cities where ASTRO’s annual meeting is held to participate in a day of science discovery and career exploration. This year’s ASPP workshop will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Washington, DC.

Registration for the ASPP program is FREE for undergraduate, graduate and medical students who are from communities underrepresented in medicine and science. The workshop aims to expose students to the field of radiation oncology and promote the radiation sciences (i.e., medical physics, radbio and MD/PhD pathways).

Throughout the day, students will:

  • Meet and have lunch with accomplished radiation oncology faculty, residency program directors, physicists, residents and medical students to hear about their career journeys.
  • Participate in conversations with invited mentors to learn more about radiation oncology, cancer treatment and cancer research.
  • Expand their networks through interactions with peers and professionals in the field.
  • Engage in cutting-edge radiation oncology technology demonstrations with industry representatives.

The 2024 ASPP workshop will offer in-person and virtual attendance. Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop, in-person attendance is highly encouraged.

The annual ASPP workshop is a collaborative event hosted by the Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (HEDI) Council and the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Equity and Inclusion Subcommittee. Register by September 12, 2024 for this free student event at ASTRO 2024!
