Spring Issue, Vol 29, No. 2

ASTRO will host its annual Advocacy Day April 27-28. Members will engage in this two-day event to inform their Senators, Representatives and respective staff members on the policy issues critical to radiation oncology. Advocates will hear directly from policy experts, gain a stronger understanding of policy issues, participate in interactive Hill meeting training and more! Advocates will then head to Capitol Hill to talk directly to legislators to share their stories of how health policies are directly effecting their patients and the field Earlier this year, ASTRO sent a letter to Capitol Hill urging lawmakers to incorporate ASTRO’s outlined priorities into policymaking as they began 2026.

ASTRO’s legislative priorities include:

  1. Reforming Medicare reimbursement for radiation therapy services by passing ROCR
  2. Holding Medicare Advantage insurers accountable for promises of transparency and affordability by reforming prior authorization
  3. Ensuring the federal government maintains a robust investment in radiation research programs at NIH, NCI, CDC and ARPA-H.

ASTRO reiterated its commitment to working with Congress to protect access to cancer treatments close to home.
