ASTRO member honored with prestigious 2026 Pediatric Oncology Award
Congratulations to Louis S. (Sandy) Constine, MD, FASTRO, who has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Pediatric Oncology Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Constine is the Philip Rubin Professor of Radiation Oncology and Pediatrics and Vice Chair of the University of Rochester’s Radiation Oncology Department. He is well known to ASTRO members for his numerous impactful contributions to the field during the course of his multi-decade career. This special ASCO award is presented annually to honor the career and achievements of an individual who has contributed outstanding scientific work — laboratory, clinical or epidemiologic — of major importance to the field of pediatric oncology. It is a well-deserved recognition of Dr. Constine's indefatigable efforts to improve the ways in which we care for kids with cancer.
Louis S. (Sandy) Constine, MD, FASTRO
Dr. Constine is the first radiation oncologist to receive this honor, and we are very proud of him! Those of us who know Sandy are not surprised that his immediate response to receiving the award was gratitude and appreciation for the colleagues and mentors who enabled and supported his journey. He says his advice to the ASTRO membership is to remain curious and be mindful of the extraordinary that is all around us. He articulates his mantra that guides him professionally as follows: “For the survivor of cancer, the world is full, and each day is a celebration. For the physician, each patient is an inspiration. For the person fighting cancer, each day is precious and must be faced with courage.”
