The Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) highlights programming from its Annual Seminar
The Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Executive Committee is excited to announce the upcoming ARRO Day 2026 taking place on Saturday, September 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in Room 156 at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston. Held in conjunction with the ASTRO Annual Meeting, ARRO Day offers programming tailored specifically for members-in-training, covering topics central to resident education, career development and the future of radiation oncology.
This year’s program will be moderated by ARRO Chair Alden D’Souza, MD, MPHS, and will include career panels, mentorship, a new session on artificial intelligence, a keynote address on financial toxicity and direct opportunities to hear from ASTRO and ARRO leadership.
Broadening Horizons: Leadership and Career Opportunities Beyond the Clinic
The day will commence at 11:00 a.m. with opening remarks and an awards presentation. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., ARRO Day will feature the “Jobs Panel: Career Opportunities and Leadership Outside of the Clinic,” designed to help residents consider the many ways radiation oncologists can apply their training beyond traditional clinical practice.
Engaging Jobs Panels and Discussions
The “Jobs Panel: Community Practice” will take place from 12:20 p.m. to 1:05 p.m. Attendees will hear from prominent community practice physicians, including Beant Gill, MD, Matthew Manning, MD, and Christopher Corso, MD, PhD. This discussion will explore the opportunities, challenges and practical considerations associated with community practice.
The “Jobs Panel: Academic Practice” will take place from 1:10 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. This session will focus on academic career paths and the skills, mentorship and opportunities that can help residents prepare for academic medicine.
Mentorship Meet and Greet
Attendees will then participate in a “Mentorship Meet and Greet” from 2:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. This informal networking session is designed to facilitate low-friction conversation between residents and attending physicians interested in mentorship. The session gives trainees an opportunity to ask questions, build professional relationships and connect with faculty across a variety of practice settings.
New for 2026: AI and Residency
This new panel discussion “AI and Residency” from 3:10 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will focus on how artificial intelligence is shaping radiation oncology training, including resident education, contouring, planning and workflow.
Keynote Address on Financial Toxicity
Fumiko Chino, MD, will present the keynote address from 4:05 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., presenting on financial toxicity. This is a timely and important topic for trainees as they consider the broader patient experience, access to care and the ways radiation oncologists can help address barriers that affect patients and families.
ARRO Chair Address and Graduating Resident Survey Results
The final sessions include the ASTRO Chair Address to residents and medical students by Sameer Keole, MD, FASTRO, from 4:35 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., and to culminate the day’s activities, Alden D’Souza, MD, MPHS, will deliver the ARRO Chair Address and present the annual ARRO Graduating Resident Survey results from 4:50 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The survey offers timely insight from recent PGY-5 graduates about the job market, career preparation and the transition from residency into practice.

ARRO Brachytherapy Workshop for Residents: Saturday, September 26, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
The workshop includes expert-led brief lectures on brachytherapy techniques for prostate and GYN cancers from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., followed by hands-on demonstrations with vendors from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.Medical Student Workshop: Saturday, September 26, 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This workshop is designed exclusively for medical students by ARRO and includes resident- and program-focused guidance on entering and preparing for radiation oncology training. Medical students are then invited to the remaining ARRO Day presentations at 4:00 p.m.
ASTRO Welcome Kickoff Party: Saturday, September 26, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
ARRO members (ASTRO members-in-training) and medical students receive complimentary admission. ARRO will have its own space within the event. Plan to attend to enjoy networking, live music and more!
Radiopharmaceutical Therapies Hands-on Experience for Residents: Monday, September 28,
8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Join us for an interactive, small-group learning experience featuring expert-led demonstrations and opportunities to engage directly with RPT clinicians and equipment. Gain valuable insights into the clinical, operational and safety considerations of delivering radiopharmaceutical therapy.
