
ARRO Day 2025
The Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Executive Committee is excited to announce the upcoming ARRO Day 2025 taking place on Saturday, September 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Moscone Center. Held in conjunction with the ASTRO Annual Meeting, ARRO Day offers a full day of programming tailored specifically for members-in-training, covering topics central to resident education and professional development.
New this year, ARRO is also offering a resident focused workshop on brachytherapy. View the schedule for Principles and Skills of Brachytherapy: A Resident-focused Workshop, starting at 8:30 a.m. before ARRO Day. Additionally, on Sunday, September 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., residents are invited to join faculty for an informal and engaging networking reception. Modeled after prior years, this gathering provides a unique opportunity for meaningful conversation and mentorship in a relaxed setting.
Broadening Horizons: Leadership and Career Opportunities Beyond the Clinic
The day will commence at 11:00 a.m. with opening remarks and lunch (boxed lunch can be purchased during registration), accompanied by an awards ceremony to celebrate outstanding contributions by residents in the field. From 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Rehema Thomas, MD, will lead a session on “Career Opportunities/Leaders Outside the Clinic,” featuring notable speakers such as Sushil Beriwal, MD, MBA, FASTRO, VP Medical Affairs at Varian; Thomas Boike, MD, MMM, FASTRO, Medical Director at Novartis; Trevor Royce, MD, MPH, VP Clinical Development at Valar Labs, and Kiran Devisetty, MD, FASTRO, Senior Director Clinical Development at Johnson & Johnson. This session aims to provide insights into leadership roles in industry and non-traditional career paths for physicians, highlighting how clinical expertise can be leveraged to drive innovation, influence health care strategy, and shape the future of medicine beyond direct patient care.Engaging Jobs Panels and Discussions
The “Jobs Panel - Community Practice” from 12:20 p.m. to 1:05 p.m., will be moderated by Shane Neibart, MD. Panelists include Sarah Zakem, MD, of Arizona Center for Cancer Care; Tracy Sheretz, MD, of Kaiser Permanente- Seattle; Benjamin Falit, MD, JD, from Pacific Cancer Institute, Wailuku, Hawaii, and Matthew Ward, MD, Southeast Radiation Oncology (SERO). They will discuss opportunities and challenges in community and private practice.The “Jobs Panel – Academic Practice” will take place from 1:10 p.m. to 1:55 p.m., and will be moderated by Oluwatimileyin Ojo, MD. Speakers include Wesley Talcott, MD, MBA, Northwell Health; Karyn Goodman, MD, FASTRO, Mount Sinai; Neha Vapiwala, MD, FASTRO, University of Pennsylvania; and Zachary Morris, MD, PhD, University of Wisconsin. This panel will explore academic career paths.
Mentorship Meet and Greet
Attendees will then participate in a “Mentorship Meet and Greet” from 2:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m., facilitated by Jenna Kocsis, MD, providing an opportunity to connect with experienced professionals and peers. Over 40 radiation oncology attending physicians in private, community-based, and academic practices will be in attendance. This informal networking session is designed to foster meaningful conversations and help attendees build lasting professional relationships across diverse practice settings. From 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., don’t miss the 5th annual Varian-sponsored ARRO Bowl — a high-energy, fast-paced quiz competition exclusively for medical students and radiation oncology residents! This year’s showdown will be hosted by last year’s champs, Erin McCammack, MD, and Alex Grosinger, MD, from University of Minnesota. The keynote speaker, Rahul Tendulkar, MD, FASTRO, from Cleveland Clinic, will present from 4:05 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dr. Tendulkar will explore a set of modern-day maxims aimed at helping clinicians rediscover purpose, build supportive microenvironments, and reclaim meaning in medicine through intentional leadership, cultural alignment and prioritization of well-being.Graduating Residents Survey Results and Closing Remarks
The final sessions will conclude with the ASTRO Presidential Address to residents by Sameer Keole, MD, FASTRO, from 4:35 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. To culminate the day’s activities, at 4:50 p.m., Jenna Kocsis, MD, will deliver the ARRO Chair Address. Additionally, Dr. Kocsis will present the eagerly awaited annual ARRO Graduating Resident Survey results for the radiation oncology residency graduating class of 2025. This survey has become a key resource for residents seeking to navigate the constantly evolving U.S. radiation oncology job market and is highly anticipated each year.Additional Events
ARRO Reception: Saturday, September 27, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. ARRO Mentoring and Networking Reception: Sunday, September 28, 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Updates from the American Board of Radiology: Michael Yunes, MD, Associate Executive Director for Radiation Oncology at the American Board of Radiology (ABR), will speak on important updates from the ABR pertinent to oral boards. All PGY-5s and recent graduates are encouraged to attend.ARRO Day 2025 is set to be an inspiring gathering, packed with fresh perspectives on career growth, physician leadership, and the evolving future of radiation oncology.
