Summer Issue, Vol. 28, No. 3

Make your plans now to join us in San Francisco for ASTRO’s 67th Annual Meeting! To help accommodate planning for parents and caregivers traveling with their families, we have compiled resources listed below to assist with your plans, with additional details available on the website at www.astro.org/childcare.

Krisha Howell, MD, of the Family Planning Working Group, shared her experience: “At the ASTRO Annual Meeting 2024 (DC), my boys were able to register and visit the Exhibit Hall, enhancing their understanding of my profession as a radiation oncologist. ASTRO’s support of parent attendees has increasingly allowed me to balance my professional and parental responsibilities while sharing my passion with my children.”

Jessica Schuster, MD, also representing the group, shared: “This year [2024] was the first time I brought one of my sons to ASTRO. I appreciated the availability of resources for child care and enjoyed the ability to have a family member pass for the Exhibit Hall. This really gave me an opportunity to show off all the amazing technology in our field.”

Child Care Stipend

ASTRO is delighted to again offer a limited number of $250 stipends to its members who are residents or in their first year of practice, to offset child care expenses while attending the Annual Meeting. Learn more about eligibility requirements and apply for one of the limited number of stipends, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

At the Meeting at the Moscone Center

Strollers, baby carriers or similar devices are permitted in meeting rooms and the Exhibit Hall (during regular Exhibit Hall show hours only), staying clear of aisles or emergency exits. Children are welcome to attend meeting functions, but we ask that parents/caregivers help maintain a professional, disturbance-free environment. Children must be supervised at all times.

Because of the nature of the programs and forums, no one under the age of 18 will be admitted to any official ASTRO function without first being registered by their parent or guardian. Children and caregivers will need to be registered at the on-site registration counter at the Moscone Center and have a waiver signed.
