ROI Research: Accelerating the Safe Delivery of Proton FLASH RT
ROI Researcher Joseph Harms, PhD, is leading the development of a new detector to accurately and repeatably measure the intense radiation fields delivered during proton FLASH radiation therapy. The innovative system is a critical advance toward safely treating patients with FLASH in the clinic. The detector combines a high-speed camera and a scintillator, a material that emits light when exposed to radiation, to provide real-time verification of the dose and dose rate during treatment. See Dr. Harms’ colleague Megan Clark, a Medical Physics PhD student at Dartmouth, present key results about how the system detects errors in the delivery of realistic patient treatment plans in a pre-clinical setting for FLASH RT during the “Best of Physics” session on Wednesday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Room 145.
