Transportation Information

Getting Around Washington, DC 

The Washington, DC, area is served by three major airports: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). Washington Dulles international airport is a 45-50 minute drive to the convention center, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is an 18-20 minute drive to the convention center and Baltimore/Washington International Airport is an hour drive to the convention center. The Metro is the public transportation system that offers stops at the convention center and other areas outside of downtown Washington, DC.

Shuttle Buses

Shuttle buses will operate between official ASTRO hotels and the Walter E. Washington DC Convention Center. The service will be provided continuously throughout the day starting on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and ending on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, for anyone who has booked a room through the ASTRO Housing Center. We will post a shuttle schedule here soon!

Public Transportation

The Metro is Washington, DC’s transit network. It provides bus and rail service throughout downtown Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland. The Convention Center sits atop the Mt. Vernon Square/7th Street-Convention Center station served by Metro's Green and Yellow lines. Alternatively, take the Red Line to the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station which is a five-minute walk from the Convention Center.

Ridesharing

Washington, DC, has a multitude of rideshare car service options such as Uber or Lyft.

Taxi

On average, a one-way taxi ride cost and distance of each of the three Washington, DC, area airports to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center are the following:

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is approximately between $16-$20 (gratuity not included) and takes seven minutes.
  • Dulles International Airport (IAD) is approximately between $90-$110 (gratuity not included) and takes 34 minutes.
  • Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) is approximately between $100-$130 (gratuity not included) and takes 41 minutes.

Rental Car Reservations

Avis Rent-A-Car is offering attendees special rates on car rentals during the Annual Meeting. To reserve your Avis rental car, call 1-800-331-1600. Be sure to mention the Avis Worldwide Discount number J657704 when making your reservation.

Parking

More than 3,000 parking spaces are located within a three-block radius of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, including surface lots and garages. Exhibitors and attendees are encouraged to use these public parking facilities. Parking regulations are heavily enforced in the Convention Center’s surrounding residential areas. There is no public parking at the convention center.
