This is a ticketed event and requires separate registration. The Annual AAWR Luncheon is an opportunity for women in radiation oncology to network and engage on a topic relevant to all practicing radiation oncologists but historically labeled as women’s issues. This session will review the current data on parental leave policies and transparency within radiation oncology and broader oncologic specialties, as well as areas where additional work is needed. We will include current recommendations from medical societies as well as updates within ACGME and ABR policies as they pertain to trainees and how they may, more broadly, alter perceptions of leave within the field. This will lead to discussions on gender-biases in perceptions of working parenthood as they relate to both male and female parents, including perceived impacts on academic productivity and overall education for trainees. For both parental leave and parenthood biases, the session will culminate with concrete strategies to promote improved parental leave policies and transparency to move toward a culture of support for all parents within radiation oncology.
