2024-2025 slate approved, Beyond the Beam curriculum series, RPT public comment

ASTRO slate approved for 2024-2025
ASTRO's Board of Directors is pleased to announce the slate approved by the Nominating Committee for positions to be filled for the 2024-2025 Society year. Additional nominations for open seats may be made by a member with at least 30 supporting signatures of members entitled to vote and must be received by May 17. Your artwork could be featured at ASTRO 2024!
New this year, the ASTRO 2024 Survivor Circle booth will feature one or more line drawings that attendees will bring to life through collaborative coloring! We are inviting submissions of black and white drawings that may relate to themes such as wellness, renewal, growth and care for others and self. The artwork will be considered by the Red Journal's Art Committee and featured at the meeting in Washington, DC. Please direct inquiries about this project and submissions to the Red Journal by June 1.
 
Fellows application deadline extended to May 10
ASTRO is accepting applications for ASTRO Fellowship (FASTRO). The deadline for applying has been extended to May 10. The FASTRO distinction recognizes members for their extraordinary contribution to the field of radiation oncology, including scientific excellence, educational service and patient care as well as volunteer service, dedication and commitment to ASTRO. Annual Refresher Course happening now!
Programming began this morning for the 2024 Annual Refresher Course. There is still time to register and join more than 500 of your colleagues for this virtual event. Registration includes Refresher onDemand which gives you access to more than 23 hours of recorded educational content for two years post-course.
 

Beyond the Beam - RPTs curriculum series begins next week

Reminder! ASTRO seeks public comments for RPT accreditation standards
ASTRO requests feedback on the draft standards for Radiopharmaceutical Therapy Accreditation. ASTRO intends to offer APEx accreditation to practices providing this treatment modality either as part of standard practice accreditation or as a standalone accreditation. Please review the draft standards and submit comments via the webform by Monday, April 22.

Senate Committee kicks off Medicare physician payment reform talks
With government funding finally resolved in March, Congress is turning its attention to Medicare physician payment reform. In an April 11 hearing at the Senate Finance Committee, senators and physician witnesses highlighted the flaws in the existing Medicare payment system, with Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) channeling the concerns of specialists and ASTRO. ASTRO champions increased cancer research funding in FY 2025 appropriation
ASTRO joined members of One Voice Against Cancer coalition in a letter urging congressional appropriators to prioritize funding cancer research and prevention programs in the Fiscal Year 2025 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill. The coalition is comprised of over 50 public interest groups calling for increased federal investment for the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health, the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, and the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
