New report outlines inappropriate prior authorization rejections, calls for increased oversight
May 2, 2022
The Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report last week finding “widespread and persistent problems” of improper care and payment denials in Medicare Advantage insurance plans. The OIG report found 13% of prior authorizations and 18% of payment claims denied actually met Medicare’s own coverage rules. ASTRO is hopeful this report, and the consequent New York Times article will help get the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act passed by Congress this year.
