CMMI makes last push to register RO Model participants

December 7, 2021

The RO Model is set to begin on January 1, 2022. CMS is requiring RO Model participants, as identified by those ZIP Codes selected for participation in the model, to register and log on to the Radiation Oncology Administrative Portal (ROAP) as soon as possible to prepare for the Model’s launch. This is particularly important for those practices that may be eligible for the low volume opt-out for performance year one (PY1). These practices should verify their contacts in the ROAP and view their eligibility for the opt out of PY1, as well as their case mix and historical experience adjustments to help inform their decision to opt out. RO participants must notify CMS of their decision to opt out before the start of PY1, that is on or before December 31 of this year, 2021, otherwise they must participate in PY1 of the Model.

CMMI has established a 10-step guide that physician group practices, freestanding radiation therapy centers and hospital outpatient departments should follow to get started:

  1. Determine if your physician group practice (PGP), freestanding radiation therapy center or hospital outpatient department (HOPD) has at least one service location in a participating ZIP Code. The participating ZIP Code list is on the RO Model website:. If so, follow steps #2-10.
  2. Appoint an RO Model Lead to be the Primary Point of Contact.
  3. Obtain your RO Model ID by calling the Help Desk at 1-844-711-2664, Option 5 or by email, [email protected]. RO participants must provide their 9-digit TIN if they are a PGP or freestanding radiation therapy center, or their six-digit CCN if they are an HOPD to be able to retrieve their RO Model ID from the Help Desk. Please note that RO participants may provide their CCN by email, but RO participants must not communicate TINs via email as this is considered Personally Identifiable Information.
  4. Provide first and last name of the primary point of contact and their email address.
  5. Register and login to the ROAP.
  6. Add other points of contacts: Primary, secondary and legal.
  7. Update organization’s profile information, including service location and mailing addresses, legal name and doing business names, if they are inaccurate.
  8. Review your organization’s case mix and historical experience adjustments.
  9. If eligible, decide if your organization would like to opt out. The legal point of contact must attest to opting out by navigating to the “Administrative Data” tab in ROAP, selecting the “Adjustments and Low-Volume Opt-Out” tile and then checking “I choose to opt-out of the RO Model for PY1.”
  10. Access resources on the RO Model website.
