Welcome Address at 9:15 a.m. today, followed by Clinical Trials, plus a full day’s lineup of programming
Weekend programming, including PRO, the ARRO Annual Seminar, Master Classes and more, began yesterday, but today kicks off the first official day of ASTRO’s 65th Annual Meeting! Sessions begin at 8:00 a.m. and ASTRO CEO Laura Thevenot will welcome attendees at 9:15 a.m. in Ballroom 20. Directly following at 9:30 a.m., Andrea Ng, MD, FASTRO, and Kenneth Rosenzweig, MD, FASTRO, chair and co-chair of the Annual Meeting Scientific Committee, will moderate the highly anticipated Clinical Trials session. Eight studies will be presented and discussant Dayssy Diaz Pardo, MD, MS, will share their perspective on the studies covered. Don’t miss this exciting kickoff to ASTRO 2023!

This afternoon, the Presidential Symposium begins at noon with four sessions designed to explore the meeting theme, Pay it Forward: Partnering with Our Patients, with a detailed look at prospective clinical trials. The symposium will challenge you to think of new ways to approach clinical research in your offices and institutions, and with your patients. All of this, plus a full day of scientific and education sessions, and many opportunities for networking await you. Visit the Game Zone and the Early Career and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lounges — spaces designed to offer areas for gathering with friends, relaxing for a quiet moment or meeting with mentors. We’re excited to welcome all attendees here in San Diego, and those joining virtually to ASTRO 2023!

Exciting and expanded programming for medical students at this year’s meeting
More than 250 medical students attended last year’s Annual Meeting, and an even higher number are expected this year. Given such strong attendance, the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) saw an opportunity for expanded programming that would specifically target this demographic. Read more about the first-ever Medical Student Workshop and the enhanced Aspiring Scientists and Physicians Program.

ASTRO Board approves membership discount for graduating residents and members in low- and lower middle-income countries
We’re excited to announce that on Friday the ASTRO Board of Directors approved two Membership Committee proposals. The first proposal expanded the existing graduating resident discount program. Graduating residents may join ASTRO within the calendar year of completing their residency for $69 and will receive a 75% discount for their first full year of membership, followed by a 50% discount the second year and then full price membership for the third year and beyond. This program includes full membership benefits, including digital subscriptions to ASTRO journals.

In alignment with ASTRO’s strategic goal to cultivate fuller engagement within the radiation oncology community, the second approved motion enacted a 50% dues reduction for members from low- and lower middle-income countries, as defined by the World Bank. Both programs include full membership benefits based on their membership categories.

These updates will go into effect in 2024.

Carve out time to visit the Poster Hall, opening today at 10:00 a.m.
Science is at the forefront during ASTRO 2023 with more than 1,600 posters available featuring the latest scientific case studies, practice innovations and research from experts in the field of radiation oncology.

This year, we have 10 Poster Q&A Sessions scheduled for in-person attendees. Poster presenters will have five minutes for their individual presentations and Q&A, followed by open Q&A time for all presenters at the end of the session. Also, poster walks are back! Poster walks offer a guided tour based on disease site. Poster walk leaders will have preselected four or five posters to discuss, thus creating a curated experience for attendees. Stop by the Poster Concierge Desk prior to Poster Q&A Sessions to meet up with a poster walk leader. And new this year in the poster hall, there’s a special kiosk for Clinical Trials in Progress ― be sure to check those out.

Annual Meeting in-person attendees may access poster kiosks in Hall B2 of the convention center throughout the meeting. All meeting participants may view posters through the Annual Meeting Portal, the MyASTROApp, and by visiting the Virtual Poster Library.
