ASTRO Leads Stakeholder Group to urge the Biden Administration to address RO Model Flaws

March 2, 2021

Key concerns regarding the RO Model were outlined in an ASTRO led radiation oncology stakeholder letter to Elizabeth Richter, the Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Signing onto the letter were organizations representing the radiation oncology cancer care team, group practices, patient advocates, and device manufactures, among others. In addition to highlighting key areas requiring modification, the letter also seeks to work with the new Administration to achieve shared goals of value-based radiation oncology care. ASTRO highlights that the RO Model seems to be overly focused on achieving significant savings at the risk of hurting access to care and quality and implores for transparency and an open dialogue in model development going forward.
