ASTRO urges CMS to protect scope of practice and licensure

July 24, 2020

ASTRO joined 102 other physician representing organizations in sending a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma urging that CMS sunset the waivers involving scope of practice and licensure when the public health emergency (PHE) concludes. In the letter, the organizations reaffirm their support of the physician-led, team-based approach to care and oppose efforts that undermine the physician-patient relationship. As some organizations advocate to make the temporary waivers enacted during the PHE permanent, ASTRO hopes to remind CMS of that physician-led, team-based care has a proven track record of success in improving the quality of patient care.
