Attestation required for receipt of CARES Act Provider Relief Funds

Physicians who have received a payment through the Provider Relief Funds authorized under the CARES Act have 90-days from payment receipt to sign an attestation through a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) portal. Should a provider not wish to comply with the Terms and Conditions for receiving the relief funds, they must contact HHS within the same 90-day period and remit the full payment. The Provider Relief Fund is part of the $100 billion fund established by the CARES Act. So far, two rounds of disbursement have been announced. The first includes $30 billion to all facilities and physicians who participated in the Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) program in 2019. The second includes $20 billion to providers who have historically had a relatively small share of their revenue come from Medicare FFS and $50 billion for rural health clinics and hospitals, the Indian Health Service, and to cover the cost of care for uninsured populations impacted by COVID-19.
