2019 ASTRO Annual Meeting Press Kit
The ASTRO Annual Meeting is the world’s largest scientific meeting in radiation oncology. The 2019 meeting will take place September 15-18 at McCormick Place West in Chicago. The meeting is expected to attract more than 11,000 attendees including oncologists from all disciplines, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, radiation oncology nurses and nurse practitioners, biologists, physician assistants, practice administrators, industry representatives and other health care professionals from around the world.
Led by ASTRO President Theodore L. DeWeese, MD, FASTRO, the 2019 meeting is organized around the theme, “Innovate, Collaborate: Transform.” New results from clinical trials and other research studies will be presented in conjunction with educational sessions. Keynote addresses include:
- Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning in Medicine, from Suchi Saria, PhD, John C. Malone Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Whiting School of Engineering, Johns Hopkins University and David Magnus, PhD, Thomas A. Raffin Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Ethics, Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine, Stanford University (Monday, September 16)
- Global Health in Oncology, from Vanessa Kerry, MD, MSc, CEO, Seed Global Health (Tuesday, September 17)
During the four-day meeting, more than 200 exhibitors will demonstrate cutting-edge technology and medical device innovations for radiation oncology and cancer care.
ASTRO provides complimentary registration to credentialed news professionals representing media organizations for the express purpose of gathering news and information to produce editorial coverage of the ASTRO Annual Meeting. Complimentary registration is open to representatives of print, broadcast and web-based media, including health care trade media, as well as public information officers from educational institutions, government agencies and nonprofit cancer research organizations presenting research at the ASTRO Annual Meeting.
Applicants may be asked to provide media credentials, a letter of assignment, bylined articles and/or additional information to complete processing of their registration request.
Exhibitors are not permitted to register as press unless they can provide proof of editorial assignment from an accredited news organization that meets the above criteria. Public relations, marketing and/or advertising representatives, financial analysts, book publishers and book authors, and individuals from communications, print or online promotion services are welcome to register as regular attendees, however, they are not permitted to register as press. ASTRO reserves the right to bar from this and future meetings any journalist who misuses press privileges to engage in activities other than journalistic pursuits.
ASTRO news briefings will highlight top-rated abstracts presented at the Annual Meeting. The final press program and schedule of news briefings will be announced in September.
Registered members of the press working remotely will be able to access live audio and slides from the news briefings and ask questions virtually. Presenter slides, high-resolution photos and an audio recording will be posted here following each briefing.

Embargo Policy and Access to Abstracts
All abstracts to be presented at the ASTRO Annual Meeting are embargoed until the date and time of scientific presentation or presentation at an ASTRO news briefing, whichever occurs first. The embargo policy applies to all abstracts regardless of whether information is obtained from another source.
Embargo violations by media professionals may result in suspension of credentials at ASTRO’s Annual Meeting as well as future meetings and may also impact the ability to receive advance media materials for future meetings. Embargo violations by abstract authors and/or sponsors may result in removal of the abstract from the scientific program. Abstract authors are responsible for notifying financial and other sponsors about this embargo policy.

The full text of the abstracts selected for oral and poster presentation will be available online at the start of the meeting. Abstracts also will be published in a supplement of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics (www.redjournal.org).
