Highlights from Advocacy Day 2022

ASTRO is collecting information on practice challenges via a  90-second survey. This anonymous survey includes six quick questions on staffing and expense issues, and your responses will help shape our messaging to policymakers during Advocacy Day and beyond. Please take a quick minute to complete the survey, and don’t forget to register for Advocacy Day 2023! With special guest discussions with senior Hill staff, a representative from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) and others, this year’s event is not one to miss. Check out our highlight video from last year's event for a closer look at what’s in store.

ASTRO-BCRF Emerging Investigator Award to Build a Diverse Scientific Workforce
ASTRO and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) launched a new Emerging Investigator Award (EIA) to Build a Diverse Scientific Workforce. This EIA aims to provide one year of support of $100,000 total (direct costs only) to one talented early career breast radiation oncology researcher who self-identifies as a member of any of the “Underrepresented Populations in the U.S. Biomedical, Clinical, Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Enterprise” as listed in the Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity. Visit the  ASTRO ProposalCentral  portal to download the Program Announcement, review all the requirements and apply. Applications are due by 9:00 a.m. Eastern time on April 24.
 
ARPA-H to host Proposers Day to highlight Broad Agency Announcement research funding opportunity
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) will host a Proposers Day for interested parties to learn more about the application process for the Open Broad Agency Announcement (BAAs) that focuses on four strategic research areas: Health Science Futures, Scalable Solutions, Proactive Health and Resilient Systems. ARPA-H is further interested in research that enables quantitative measurements of health outcomes, human-centered design for health innovations, participatory research and advances in Ethical, Legal and Societal Implications (ELSI) topics. Register for Proposers Day will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern time on April 4 to participate in Technical Brief, Acquisition Brief and Q&A. Email questions in advance.
   
Last days to submit nominations for the 2023 ASTRO Mentorship Award
Nominations for the 2023 ASTRO Mentorship Award are due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, April 3. Nominations must be submitted by a colleague or mentee and renomination is allowed. The Mentorship Award recognizes extraordinary role models in radiation oncology who have excelled as mentors by demonstrating outstanding commitment to the professional development of their mentees as clinicians, educators and researchers.
 
Calling all California providers: Help spread the word on ASTRO’s Survivor Circle grant
The 2023 Survivor Circle Grant is ASTRO’s way of giving back to the cancer community during our Annual Meeting. This year, we will award two $12,000 grants to California-based cancer patient support organizations during the ASTRO Annual Meeting in San Diego. Please share this opportunity with your nurses and other medical professionals working with support organizations to help spread the word! The deadline for support organizations to apply is May 5.
 
New! Presentation on RT for physical therapists
A new PowerPoint presentation is available for download to serve as a resource when presenting on the role of radiation therapy to health care professionals involved in cancer rehabilitation. This is the first of ASTRO’s presentations created with a specific type of provider in mind. The slides can be formatted as needed to fit your audience. Explore this new addition to our growing selection of presentations.
