Two webcast news briefings will preview top studies

The 2012 Chicago Multidisciplinary Symposium in Thoracic Oncology, sponsored by ASCO, ASTRO, IASLC and The University of Chicago, will host two news briefings on top lung cancer research from its meeting September 6 - 8, 2012, in Chicago.

What: Two webcast news briefings from the 2012 Chicago Multidisciplinary Symposium in Thoracic Oncology.

When: Thursday, September 6, at 7:00 a.m. Central time
Study findings previewed:

  • Hispanic/Latino non-small cell lung cancer patients have higher overall survival than non-Hispanic white patients
  • Stage I non-small cell lung cancer patients who receive radiation therapy are surviving longer
  • Marital status, race increase survival rate significantly for stage III non-small cell lung cancer patients

  • Crizotinib reduces tumor size in patients with ALK positive lung cancer
  • Brain radiation after lung cancer treatment reduces risk of cancer spreading
  • Standard chemotherapy treatment provides equivalent survival rate to experimental regiment in late-stage lung cancer patients
  • Adding bavituximab to second-line chemotherapy doubles response rate in late-stage lung cancer patients
