2020 Advocacy Day

We have made the difficult decision to cancel Advocacy Day 2020 in Washington, DC, which was scheduled for April 20-21. Given the importance of our advocacy agenda, including the forthcoming Radiation Oncology Model, we are working to schedule virtual meetings with Congressional offices at a later date. We will send you updates on virtual meetings as information becomes available.

While we know cancelling this in-person meeting may be disappointing, we feel it best to ensure the safety of ASTRO's members and the patients that rely on your care. Numerous attendees and faculty have notified us of travel restrictions issued by their medical institutions - while others have shared the staffing strain their institutions are currently facing.

In addition, as you may know, COVID-19 is now considered a pandemic according to the World Health Organization. As a result, access to the Capitol Complex has been severely limited as of 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020; legislative offices are in discussions to extend the limited access through the end of April/beginning of May.

You are strongly encouraged to contact the Washington Court Hotel to cancel your reservation and we urge you to work with your flight carrier to make alternate arrangements. ASTRO will not be able to reimburse for flights or other travel related expenses. If you were a 2020 travel grant recipient, please contact me directly for additional information.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best,
Margarita Valdez
Assistant Director of Congressional Relations
