The Medicare and Private Insurer Payment section contains information related to National Coverage Determinations (NCDs), managed care issues that practicing radiation oncologists may encounter and Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), formerly known as Local Medical Review Policies (LMRPs).

ASTRO’s Regulatory Committee closely monitors the information published by CMS and by third-party payers. The Regulatory Committee works very closely with ASTRO’s Payment Systems Committee, given that third-party payers often implement the same or similar policies as Medicare (CMS).

Through the ASTRO Regulatory Committee, ASTRO has submitted several comment letters and drafted guidance documents in an effort to familiarize the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), third-party carriers and managed care organizations with the process of care for the services that radiation oncologists provide.
