ASTRO Basic Science Travel Grants

The Radiation Oncology Institute has a mechanism to subsidize meeting attendance among physicians, physicists and biologists who meet certain criteria. Up to seven grants of $1,000 each are awarded each year. Five are reserved for junior investigators; two are designated as senior investigator awards. Application deadline is April 2, 2009.

Additional ASTRO Travel Grants for 51st Annual Meeting

ASTRO offers additional travel grants to individuals who have abstracts selected for presentation at ASTRO's 51st Annual Meeting and meet certain criteria. ASTRO awards $1,000 for US and Canadian applicants and $1,500 for international applicants. The application deadline is April 2, 2009.

ASTRO Nurses' Annual Meeting Travel Grants

This award provides support and subsidizes meeting attendance among radiation oncology nurses conducting clinical research or presenting at the ASTRO Annual Meeting. The Nurses' Travel Grant is designed to recognize radiation oncology nurses for their achievements and outstanding service. Applications are accepted as part of the abstract submission process. To be eligible, the applicant must be the first or a coauthor of the abstract and endorsed by his or her current department chair. Up to four grants of $1,000 each are awarded each year. The application deadline is April 2, 2009. The abstract will be highlighted at the ASTRO Annual Meeting and recognized in printed materials.

ASTRO International - U.S. Annual Meeting Travel Grants

This award provides support for radiation oncologists in developing countries attending the ASTRO Annual Meeting, allowing them to spend additional time at a comprehensive cancer center within the U.S. The grants are designed to foster continuing medical education, assist in career development and help to establish strong relationships with leading ASTRO members who may serve as scientific mentors to each recipient. Applications are accepted as part of the abstract submission process. Award recipients are matched with an ASTRO member to serve as a mentor based on a mutual area of interest.

Two grants of $3,500 each are available per year to cover expenses associated with the recipient's attendance at the ASTRO Annual Meeting. A supplemental monetary award of $1,500 is available to the recipient to visit his or her mentor's cancer center in the United States for observation and training one week prior to or immediately following the Annual Meeting. Applications are accepted through April 2, 2009. The abstract will be highlighted at the ASTRO Annual Meeting and recognized in the printed materials.

ASTRO International Travel Grant (ESTRO/CARO)

The ASTRO international travel grant supports ASTRO members presenting abstracts at international meetings (ESTRO or CARO). The recipient is also provided with an opportunity to visit international institutions. Up to 10 grants of $2,000 each shall be awarded each year for the purpose of attending the ESTRO or CARO annual meeting. An effort will be made by ESTRO and CARO to have grantees spend a week at an overseas major cancer center the week before or after the meeting. 


ASTRO Additional Travel Grants

To encourage participation in ASTRO-sponsored symposia and other meetings related to radiation oncology, ASTRO has a fund to subsidize meeting attendance. ASTRO awards $1,000 for U.S. and Canadian applicants and $1,500 for international applicants. The total amount for all awards in a given year is $100,000.
